Brief History

Most people that serve in the military are men. Before women were allowed to join forces into the military they were disguising themselves as men. In WW1 and WW2 women served in war as nurses, photo analysis, sheet metal workers, mechanical workers, and some were used to test pilots for fighter planes. In 1979 qualifications became the same for men and women. But women were prohibited from being able to go into combat and as of 1994 the department of defense officially banned women from serving in combat. Finally in 2016 women had the equal right to choose any military occupational specialty.

Proponents View Point

Opposing View Point
Many people are against women in combat because of physical ability, readiness, tradition, abuse, and career advancement. People believe women are not physically suited to be in combat. The standards that are set in exercising have been suit to men and women will over stretch themselves resulting in higher injury rates. The term readiness is to prove that women who are pregnant are not stable to go to war, which will cause the military to be understaffed. The tradition of men when they are around women is to act foolishly and to protect women people believe the men will become distracted and this will likely cause a problem. Women and men are both at risk of torture and rape, but women are more willing to be abused as a woman prisoner. Finally career advancement is both require different physical and emotional attributes. On the role of men are stronger than women it would not be an equal opportunity for promotions between both genders.Captain Katie Petronio, US Marine Corps, served in combat in Afghanistan and IraqCurrent Events
This current event discusses the U.S. military opening combat positions for women. The military is allowing women to fill about 220,000 jobs and limiting men options. As long as women qualify and meet the standards of the positions they will be able to contribute to mission. Women will be able to drive tanks, give orders, and lead soldiers into combat. Finally the corps are taking charge and making this effective within 30 days.
This current event discusses the pentagon giving women the right to now serve front line ground combat. Defense secretary Ash Carter included the marines and army women are able to serve in combat post. The process to open jobs for women in combat began in January 2013.
Laws Pertaining To Women In Combat
Supreme Court Case
One important supreme court case of women in combat was the Rostket v. Goldberg case. This case was established to ban women from registering into the military because they were not able to join the navy, air force, or combat. They wanted women to be able to have equal rights and responsibility as men in combat. Finally they wanted to support women in having civic duties as well as men.My Thoughts On Women In Combat
My opinion on women in combat is to let them achieve their goals. In today’s society women have rights. If women sign up to join the military it’s at their own risk as opposed to men who can be forced to go out into combat and have to fight without an option. Women are becoming stronger and I believe you can accomplish anything you desire. Also many people are against discrimination so there is no reason why women aren’t able to go and fight for their country. Finally many people support women for numerous things and to be in the military shows strength and courage for them willing to give a life to protect their country.
